Today I am going to introduce you to a Belgian speciality: The Cuberdon. It's a candy with the shape of a cone and the taste of raspberry.
It was accidently discovered by a pharmacist (named De Vynck) in 1873, in that period medicines were taken in the form of syrup.
The Cuberdon also known as "Neuzeke" (Dutch) is made of Arabian gum and has a hard outside, while the inside is gelatinous.

Arabian Gum is made of the sap of the acacia tree and is imported from West-Africa. During WWII is was not possible to import this important ingredient, so it took until 1946 for it to be back on the market.
The problem is that after 3 weeks the gelatinous inside will lose it liquid state and crystallizes.
This is the reason why the Cuberdon won't be exported to others countries. So if you have the chance to visit Belgium, do not hesitate to taste them.
These days they have up to 25 different tastes of the Cuberdon like strawberry, cherry, apple, lemon,...
